We’re Shelby and Drake Johnson, Military Veterans and the owners of the Five Pillars Team here in Lexington, Kentucky. We wanted to share our story and experience so you can decide for yourself if we’re a good fit for you.
How it started: We originally left our time in service to pursue Real Estate Investing (yes investing). We got our Agent licenses to help fund our rental dreams. But that quickly evolved into a full on business [obsession] with helping others buy and sell.
From earning Keller Williams’ Rookie of the Year out the gate, to founding the Five Pillars Team, we’ve helped over 550 families in the past few years and have had a BLAST elevating the standard within our industry.
Alongside helping others hit their goals, we were earning our stripes in the Real Estate Investor space with 74 rentals acquired in 3 years, appearances on the BiggerPockets podcast, and features in Business Insider.

When COVID hit, we pivoted to a virtual business model. Our close-knit team evolved into Five Pillars Nation, a nationwide online community for Real Estate professionals.
I (Shelby) started hosting the #1 Real Estate Agent Podcast with over 7 million downloads, expanding our connections and sharpening our skills within the digital landscape.
But – if you’re like us – the virtual world took a toll. Feelings of isolation and burnout set in. Virtual life felt more and more shallow, and we became physically disconnected from the people that used to bring our lives so much meaning.
After a lot of reflection, we realized that we don’t want to live a virtual life.

We both served in the Military — myself (Shelby) in the Army and Drake in the Marines, for a combined total of 11 years and 30 moves across the world. Over these years we experienced some of the very best and very worst the military has to offer.
The best? High Standards. Discipline. Respect. Teamwork. The worst? Building some of the closest bonds imaginable, then losing them. Our mission, “To create lifelong relationships through exceptional service” is about more than just real estate. It’s our daily reminder that excellence IS the standard and at the end of the day, relationships matter more than anything else.
In memory of those we’ve loved and lost, we raise awareness for TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), a non-profit that helps families of America’s Fallen Heroes. Our Team donates $250 from every closing to the cause. Want to help too?
